Complicité is a trailblazing international theatre company, led by Artistic Director Simon McBurney. With award-winning productions Complicité pioneers exceptional art, embracing new technology, and fostering creativity. Committed to inclusivity, education, and risk-taking, the company aims to extend its impact globally to reach more diverse communities.

We embarked on a mission to transform their digital presence. Our challenge was to redefine Complicité’s offer through an empowering new website and refreshed brand assets. Drawing inspiration from their theatrical process, props and design heritage, we harnessed the texture and energy of hand-drawn marks and print ephemera. This formed formed an offbeat visual language, echoing their sense of surprise and exploration. An analogue aesthetic for a digital age.

Our design choices reflected a commitment to sustainability. From green web hosting to dark backgrounds, modest image sizes and mindful use of video. The strong typographic system ensured impact, especially when images were smaller, maintaining a balance of clarity and character. We created an adaptable toolkit that not only embraced a sustainable ethos but also strengthened Complicité’s experimental reputation.

Working closely with the team, we distilled Complicité’s range of activities across the site with intuitive navigation and clear calls to action. We ensured that their award-winning Learning & Engagement initiatives received as much attention as their productions, as well as creating an archive celebrating their brilliant collaborators. The Complicité team now have the autonomy, flexibility and confidence to promote themselves fully to all audiences.
