Talawa

Talawa was formed in 1986 in direct response to the lack of creative opportunities for actors from minority ethnic backgrounds. Since then, this remarkable company has produced more than 40 eclectic, award-winning touring productions. Without its own venue though, raising interest and awareness is difficult. Talawa was looking to up its profile and further its commitment to emerging Black theatre talent.

The need for a strong identity and compelling website was critical. We designed a bespoke, immersive and playful website that has become Talawa’s main shop window: somewhere to build on community and teaching work; to showcase new productions; to announce castings and jobs, and to accept donations.

The identity has rhythm and energy, emphasising the phonetics of the Jamaican patois name, which means ‘small but feisty’. Colour, typography and imagery enhance the company’s bold spirit and positive outlook.

We helped Talawa to cement its position as the most successful Black theatre company in the UK.
