TRP is the largest regional theatre in the UK and leading promoter of performance in the South West. It is incredibly vibrant with a myriad of things on offer. From the large auditorium, experimental theatre, and restaurant, through to a community performance area and production space.
TRP were looking to reach more people, raise their profile and attract other funding bodies both private and public. With the advent of a £7 million regeneration project it was the perfect opportunity to refresh their strategy, identity and communications across all platforms.
At TRP the energy and passion is palpable, no two visits are ever the same. We wanted the visual language to express these ideas, with abstract, dynamic elements converging and twisting like swathes of light.
There was a wonderful diversity of applications that included: the carpet and wayfinding, sculptural signage and illumination, video and animations, printed literature and tickets, restaurant and cafe materials, all underpinned by comprehensive guidelines.
The theatre continues to thrive and make the press, despite drastic funding cuts within the arts across the regions.
The wayfinding required a holistic approach due to the complexity of the regeneration project and collaborations with BAM and BDP.
The steel signs are a result of experimentation with material and folded shapes. These form a physical manifestation of the graphic patterns, whilst being sympathetic to the brutalism of the building.Read more+
